Vasiliki Stasinaki

Vasiliki Stasinaki is a Belfast-based artist specializing in sculpture, textiles, video, and audio installation. With a background in dance and visual arts, she is currently affiliated with QSS Studios and Gallery in Belfast. Through her work, she aims to critically examine her position in the world from a social and political perspective, utilizing performative interventions within specific spaces. She focuses on constructing environments and situations that elicit distinct emotional responses in the audience, encouraging observation, inquiry, and participation.

During her residency, she will work on a research project. The project aims to explore the industrial landscape of post-civil war Athens through the traditional working-class male dance Zeimbekiko, utilizing previously state-censored films, photographs, and news that highlight social and political working-class struggles.

Vasiliki studied dance at the Greek National Opera Dance School and at Northern School of Contemporary Dance. She holds an MFA Fine Art from Belfast School of Art and an MRes in Art and Design from Sint Lucas Antwerp. Her work has been shown in Safehouse Peckham, Camden Image Gallery, Menier Gallery London, Platform Arts Belfast, Catalyst Belfast, PS2 Belfast, QSS Belfast, CCA Glasgow, MORPHO Antwerp, Draiocht Gallery, Mart Gallery Dublin and Ulster Museum.

She is supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, by Belfast City Council and a-n The Artists Information Company. Her residency at MORPHO is supported by the Arts Council Northern Ireland- Artist International Development Fund. She is one half of the artist duo SmythStasinaki.
