Lore Van Roelen

Resident

1992, lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium

The sculptures of Lore Van Roelen depart of interaction with readymades: “results of mass production”. The production process is a dialogue between herself and these objects in which either she or the objects is predominating. Her sculptures are never finished, the final image stays in motion. It continuously suggests a next step in the production process. Lore Van Roelen uses sculpture also in performative actions like the ‘walking project’ performance in the Middelheim Museum, in which her sculptures are literally walking through the parc and position themselves against the collection of the museum. In ‘Kar’, 2014 Lore Van Roelen walks on the public road in Antwerp with a closet on wheels. Through its transparent windows, a part of her readymade collection can be recognized.

Lore Van Roelen currently studies sculpture at the St Lucas School of Arts Antwerp. Her work was shown in the following exhibitions: Lore wandelt, Antwerp, 2014; Word of Mouth, Socrates never wrote a word, St Lucas Antwerp, 2013; Expositie, Antwerp, 2013; Weihnachtsexposition, Antwerp, 2013

Lore Van Roelen is selected to participate in the first edition of STRT Kit.
