The mixed media practice of Daan Gielis incorporates an autonomous aesthetic language coming into being through designed constructions and found objects, like plants and carpets. In his installations, Daan Gielis creates a narrative expectation, similar to the alienating decors of potential film scenes. His environments look like something just took place or something will take place in the immediate future. Inspired by cinema Daan Gielis also includes autobiographic elements in his works.
Daan Gielis graduated from Post St-Joost, ‘s Hertogenbosch in 2013. His work was shown in the following exhibitions (a selection): Auction MDD, Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, Deurle, 2014; Interpunction #7, Tatjana Pieters Gallery, Ghent, 2014; Wild Horses & Trojan Dreams, Marres, Maastricht, 2013.
Daan Gielis is selected to participate in the first edition of STRT Kit.
