August in the monastery garden
26.08.2022–28.08.2022

Summer programme

Every last weekend of the summer months of June, July, August and September, our green monastery garden comes to life. Together with Kunsthal Extra City and many other partners, we put together a diverse programme of performances, workshops, film screenings, brunches, concerts, artist talks, ... You can read the programme for August below.

☼ 26.08.2022 ☼

19:00 • Queer Choir Amsterdam, The Gushing Deluge

Queer Choir Amsterdam is an artistic initiative that premises the creation of a brave space to celebrate unique identities and voices. Through rehearsals and performances, they express ideas for the futures they desire and narratives they want to share.

20:00 • The Zangles, Summer Sessions

The Zangles are getting their act together for their sixth show. Nine female egos with big ideas and small voices are combining their urge to sing. With: Mia Prce, Johanna Trudzinski, Michèle Matyn, Tina Schott, Eva Van Deuren, Jóhanna Kristbjörg Sigurðardóttir, Jessie Schietecatte, Valentine Kempynck and Liesbet Swings.

21:30 • Antwerp Queer Arts Festival, Closing Party

AQAF is a multidisciplinary arts festival questioning gender and sexual diversity. Join us for the closing day of their group exhibition at Extra City and MORPHO, gathering works by Nathan French, Yamuna Forzani, Anna Urazova, Laurent Poisson, Hussein Shikha and Denys Shantar. With a DJ set by Sylvia Iweanya. (Until 01:00)

☼ 27.08.2022 ☼

11:00 • Baya Collective, Candied Conversations

Baya Collective invites you to join them at a rich table where stories are woven into meals. They host this third edition together with Belgian Brazilian multidisciplinary artist, illustrator and performer Sadrie Alves. (Until 14:00, register here.)

15:00 • Noam Youngrak Son, Chimera Gastronomy

Noam Youngrak Son invites you to work on a large malleable body of dough made of food waste, and turn it into a hybrid creature. The co-created edible sculpture is a translation of our collective and personal struggles, discoveries and feelings around bodies. Hosted by The Constant Now. (Until 18:00, register here)

19:00 • Awa Gaye, Lou Cocody-Valentino, Rose-Myrtha Vercammen, Sadrie Alves & Subin Son, Collective Performance

This collaborative performance reads as an intercultural celebration of shared stories. By highlighting creative kinship in the context of a cloister garden filled with flowers and herbs, the artists look at local, domestic ceremonies and rituals, ranging from Korea to Brazil. Hosted by The Constant Now. (Until 21:00)

☼ 28.08.2022 ☼

14:00 • Francesca Hawker, Cover over Cover

Francesca Hawker organises a book covering workshop with her own artistic material for young and old. Bring the book you want to cover, perhaps because you don’t like the cover, or because you have to cover it for school. She will provide covering material such as drawings, poems and collages of magazines, as well as refreshments and background music. (feel free to join at any time until 18:00, register here)

14:00 • MUCE, The Power of the Potato
